Basketball

This piece was one of my earlier works, it was actually my first piece that I used the splatter paint technique. There is a very explosive feeling to this particular piece. The first thing that came to mind when creating this piece was the image of a basketball exploding. The bold colors and the violent marks create the explosive feeling. This piece is somewhat a reflection of the sport itself. There is a lot of movement and energy in this piece, similar to the sport of basketball. When I made this piece I wasn't conscious of the correlation between the two. It wasn't till after that I made this connection.

New Motion

New Motion 38" x 48" (acrylic on canvas)

This is one of my more recent pieces. Most of my pieces consist of different color schemes, but this one is quite different. Using the basic "colors" black and white was something I wanted to explore. I had done several black and white pieces prior to this one, but it wasn't until this particular piece that I finally captured, what I felt to be, a "New Motion". In this piece one can see the that the eye can't help but travel across the work. This is a reflection of the way in which I work. I work from all angles of the piece and attempt to tie each mark with the next. This process, after several layers, eventually embodies the motions of the creator. Through this process I feel that the viewer is able to connect with the artist.

Outer Space

 Outer Space 20" x 46" (acrylic on canvases)

This piece was another experimentation with polyptych art. Traditionally in a tryptych piece, canvases of the same size are selected. But in this particular piece I decided to test out the idea of using three different sized canvases for one specific work. I used one 20" x 20" canvas, one 11" x 14" canvas, and one 12" x 12" canvas. I found it quite interesting to see the different motions and patterns that were captured on each individual canvas. Again I wanted to merge the two worlds of chaos and order. That is why I used three different shades of purple and three different sized canvases. It's my way of putting some type of structure to my work. Then I let the loose and chaotic movement take place. The color selection almost makes it look like a scene from outer space. And the different canvases almost seem to be different dimensions of an outer space scene.

Three Of A Kind

Three Of A Kind 18" x 42" (acrylic on canvases)

This painting was an exploration into Polyptych art. I wanted to put a twist on my abstracts, therefore I chose to explore polyptych art. My art is very loose and chaotic. Introducing a tryptych format was my way of bringing order to a chaotic process. At a first glance everything looks random and loose but as one gazes into the work, one may notice that the placing and selection of the colors causes the eye to travel across the entire body of work. I feel a subdued yet sporatic vibe when I view this piece. The theme of merging the to worlds of order and chaos is one that is relevant to all my pieces. Personally, it is a reflection of my life. In a way my art is the psycho-analyzation of the creator.

Southern Sunset

Southern Sunset 38” x 48” (acrylic on canvas)

This piece was created about a month ago. I had begun to become more familiar with the splatter technique and wanted to do something a little different. I selected several colors that gave of a southern Latino vibe that were subtle yet bold. After the color selection was done I created a horizon. This is the first time I had created any type of background and structure for my abstract painting. Essentially it was an experiment that involved structure in a process that routinely has none. Then, as usual, I let the painting take a life of its own. I’am very proud of this piece. Through the vagueness of abstract art and the order of premeditated thought I have arrived at something that I feel the viewer can Identify with. “Southern Sunset”

Kaleidoscope

Kaleidoscope 27” x 28” (acrylic on un-stretched canvas)

This abstract painting was done about 2 months ago. I wanted to give off a distorted/cool sort of feeling. As the abstract progressed my idea for the piece evolved. I wanted something that would draw the viewer to the center of the piece. This is when the streaks came into play. My intention is to communicate a cool and calm feeling along with unknown distorted feeling. The contrast between the to vibes is where the viewer finds their interpretation.
